Types of Felony Theft Offenses
In Washington, there are two main “levels” of felony theft offenses, and the charges you may face will depend on the value and type of item that was allegedly stolen.
- Theft 1st Degree – This is the most serious felony theft offense. If the property or services stolen were valued at $5,000 or more, or if you stole directly from a person, you may be charged with theft first degree. A conviction of this Class B felony could yield up to 10 years behind bars.
- Theft 2nd Degree – If the value of the object or service was more than $750, but less than $5,000, the crime will be considered theft second degree. This offense will also include the theft of any device that can access financial accounts, such as a debit card or similar. As a Class C felony, you could face up to 5 years in prison and thousands in fines if convicted.
